Overview Mobile network bandwidth demands continue to increase with no end in sight. The subscriber hunger for higher bandwidth and higher capacity services is driving fiber deeper and higher into the radio access network (RAN). This paper will explore the technology drivers, the challenges of deploying reliable and robust fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) networks, and new radio interface standards like Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) or Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI).
